Barber Sweeps Weekend with Bluegrass Rumble Win at Bluegrass Speedway

Bardstown, KY-September 17, 2011- The American Modified Series concluded its 2011 season on Saturday night at Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY and Bryan Barber of Greensburg, KY would sweep the series championship weekend with another $1,500 payday at the David and Anita Ferrell promoted ½ mile high-banked clay oval.

Barber would claim his second straight series victory aboard his B&B Motorsports/All Star Performance/Dyer’s Top Rods/Bandit Race Cars/Bilstein/Frankland Racing Equipment sponsored #10 Bandit Race Cars, Jay Dickens Race Engines powered machine. The win would be the second with the tour for 2011 and would also catapult Barber to the top of the points heap and would the third-generation racer the 2011 American Modified Series champion.

Benji Lee of Loretto, KY would take runner-up honors in the 30 lap main event, while John Demoss of Bloomington, IN would earn hard charger top honors by finishing third after starting 12th. Trent Young of Hopkinsville, KY would take fourth place, while Michael England of Glasgow, KY would complete the top five. The remainder of the top finishers would be Jimmy Payne, Elliott Despain, Randle Sweeney, Kelly Warren, and Dion Benningfield. The event would be slowed by one red flag and would take 24 minutes and 43 seconds to complete.

Jimmy Payne would take the lead at the start of the American Modified Series 11th Annual Bluegrass Rumble main event and would be challenged immediately by Bryan Barber for the top spot. Payne would keep Barber at bay until lap 4 when Barber would make his move off of turn two and grab the race lead. The only caution of the event would turn to a red flag when third place running Joey Kramer would get spun in turn four and Kramer would wind up hitting the concrete wall and flipping his car onto its top, dashing his hopes for the series title. After a lengthy clean-up period, action would resume and Barber would continue to roll at the point, while Benji Lee would go to second. Trent Young and 12th place starting John Demoss would battle for third, with Demoss eventually gaining the position with five laps remaining. But the night would belong to Barber as he would see the checkered flag first for the second straight night and grab the series championship in the process.

In preliminary action, Ricky Arms would be the Williams Precision Engine top qualifier among 24 entries at 16.130 seconds. Jimmy Payne would win Hypercoil Springs heat one, while Joey Kramer won Wiles Driveshafts heat two. Bryan Barber would take VP Racing Fuels heat three and Benji Lee would score the win in Comp Cams heat four.
